Philosophy or a means?

Yoga is a discipline that leads to spiritual self-realisation, helps to keep us healthy and makes a conscious change of the state of mind, body and spirit possible.

Yoga is a means of harmonising body, mind, emotions and energy. Yoga is not a philosophy, not something to be only thought about. Yoga is a practice that is lived. It deals with our whole being: our body, our existence, our origin, our sources. True yoga is free of any dogma and is not a religion.

Yoga is a practice thousands of years old and a science of the inner being, which serves humanity without any additional message.

The most important aspects of yoga

Universal moral commandments, self-purification through discipline, body postures, rhythmic controlled breathing, freeing the mind from the influence of the environment, concentration, meditation and union with the subject of meditation.

    Postures

The path to follow consists in making our body and all its functions conscious: through attention and consistent practice we learn to notice and direct even what used to pass unnoticed.

  • Yoga image: breathing

    Breathing

Modern people often do not breathe properly. Our suppressed spiritual life, the constant swinging between passion and fear, tightens our throat, so we do not breathe with full lungs.

    Awareness

Unpleasant states such as fear, anger and despair burden the organism, while good feelings, happiness, joy and love give us strength to cope better with life.

They said

These quotations are our English rendering of texts known to us in Serbian; the wording of the originals may differ.

“The powers of the mind are like rays of light that scatter; when they are concentrated, they illuminate. That is our only way of knowing.”

— Vivekananda

“Man, you are your own only secret! Who can open your door but you? And no one can enter but you!”

— Selvarajan Yesudian

“Trust your true essence and you will be able to rely on your strengths. Act rightly, and life will be just to you. Be moderate in every part of your life, and you will have a long and healthy life. Be calm like the morning stillness, look to the future with confidence, as you trust in tomorrow’s sunrise, look at the world with cheerful calm. The strength that holds the world holds you too, for you are a part of it.”

— Selvarajan Yesudian and Elisabeth Haich

“Avoid two things, traveller: useless desires and excessive restraint of the body.”

— Buddha

“A person should turn their eyes towards themselves, in order to set out on the most wondrous path of discovering the world.”

— Brunton

“If matter is powerful, thought is all-powerful. The salvation of the world lies in a cultured humanity.”

— Pestalozzi

“Pleasure is short, like a flash of lightning; why then do I follow only the path of pleasure?”

— Buddha

“Let the individual live without doing harm, free of care, like an elephant in a forest of elephants.”

— Siddhartha Gautama

“Peace and its attainment in all directions is the goal of the world.”

— Hazrat Inayat Khan, musician, philosopher and Sufi mystic, The Way of Illumination

“Strength that asks for no justification and love that asks for no proof.”

— inspired by a line spoken by Om Puri in the film Wolf (1994), freely reworded

“And he who cannot live in a community, or who needs nothing … is either a beast or a god.”

— Aristotle
